WE NEED TO CHANGE THE WAY FOOD IS GROWN
Synthetic nitrogen fertilizer accounts for more than 2% of global GHG emissions. Fertilizer production accounts for 1%+ of these emissions, and another 1%+ comes from nitrogen loss. This nitrogen loss occurs when crops don’t need all of the synthetic nitrogen applied. Some of it washes away into our waterways and some volatizes into the air. It’s 300 times worse than carbon dioxide and wreaks havoc on the environment, creating everything from massive dead zones in the ocean to climate change. Our goal is to eliminate up to half the GHG emissions associated with row crop agriculture.
A BETTER NITROGEN
Our farmers use Pivot Bio PROVEN, a microbe that provides nitrogen to crops like corn and replaces synthetic nitrogen fertilizer. By transforming nitrogen in the air to feed nitrogen-hungry crops, our microbes help our farmers’ crops grow strong, tall, and healthy without any synthetic nitrogen fertilizer.
WITHOUT NITROGEN, PLANTS CAN'T GROW
Today, agriculture uses over 100 million tons of synthetic nitrogen fertilizer to grow our food. Nitrogen is critical to the life cycle of plants - without this nutrient, plants won’t flourish. Farmers use synthetic nitrogen fertilizer because only a few plants are capable of working together with microbes to transform the nitrogen in the air into a form that plants can use. But things are starting to change!
